what to expect in therapy with ME
I hold space for you to say what you feel isn’t working and to experiment with what makes you feel alive again.
You aren’t lost or broken. You are in the middle. I can help you move through this middle place to the place on the other side where you can feel confident, sleep better, and feel like you know yourself again.
The Process
Book a Free Consultation
To begin, please schedule a free consultation to set a 15 minute phone appointment. During this time I will get a brief glimpse into what brought you to look for a therapist. You will be able to see if you feel comfortable working with me. And, I will assess if my training and skills will help you. If so, we will set a 90 minute intake appointment.
intake appointment
I will send you a very long packet of papers to fill out. This helps me get to know you! Our first appointment is 90 minutes. I need that time to go over every one of those papers you completed, ask questions and take notes.
ongoing sessions
Our first few meetings are about us getting to know one another. It is imperative that we feel comfortable with each other, otherwise, the therapy won’t work. I’ll get to know what you’ve been through, how your life is feeling right now, listen for clues to where things got difficult, and how you would prefer to be feeling and acting. Then we will discuss what you would like to learn or accomplish or change with therapy.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
I don’t have an easy answer for this question as every person comes to therapy with different needs and challenges. I’ve seen a client for a period of three months, and others met with me weekly for a year or more. After our period of meeting weekly comes to an end, you are always welcome to come back for a check-in or follow-up. I have several clients with whom I meet monthly or every six weeks long after our regular weekly work ended.
-
We can meet both online via Zoom and in person. I have offices in Brunswick and Pineland Farms, Maine. Zoom saves the day when weather makes driving difficult.
I also offer online therapy via Zoom throughout the state of California.
-
I have a strict policy of getting 24-hour notice for cancellations. If you cancel sooner than 24 hours I charge your credit card for my full fee. I reserve our set hour for you and I wouldn’t be able to meet with someone else at that hour on short notice.
-
What is a sliding scale/student discount? I reserve three therapy hours per week for clients who need services but do not have insurance and cannot pay my full fee. These fees are assessed on an individual basis using a sliding scale chart.
-
I keep your credit card on file and charge through SquarePay.
If we meet strictly in person I accept payment at your session in cash, credit card, Venmo, or check.
-
We will meet via phone or zoom to sort this out. Every person’s needs are different.

Group therapy at my studio consists of writing or using creative expression around a theme, like “What will you do with your one wild and precious life?” -Mary Oliver. Or we may use collage materials to answer the question “What is going on in your head right now.”
I offer groups on journal writing. And I offer groups using paint, paper, glue, and images.
Each group meets for four or six weeks. Each meeting is 2 hours.
We start each meeting with an exercise that invites our nervous systems to transition from the stress of leaving home and driving, into the still space of the group.
We begin each group by discussing the topic for the day, then either write in a journal, or use art materials. After completing our work, each member shares about what they created.
No one checks your spelling, grammar, or character of any visual product.
No experience with writing or art materials is needed. In fact, I may use cosmetic sponges or Q-tips for paintbrushes. These sessions aren’t about producing a great piece of writing or a great piece of art that you must sell. These sessions are about what happens inside you while you are writing or creating. Each part of the group sessions offers an opportunity to learn more about yourself, to heal, to connect with group members.
You don’t have to do this alone. We can work together to find what makes you feel like yourself again.
